CASE FILE: THE ALASKA GIANT (JAL 1628)

CASE ID: FAA-1986-JAL1628

DATE: NOV 17, 1986

LOCATION: ALASKA AIRSPACE (ANCHORAGE)

CLASSIFICATION: RADAR-VISUAL (CIVIL AVIATION)

INCIDENT ABSTRACT

Japan Airlines Flight 1628, a Boeing 747 cargo freighter piloted by Captain Kenju Terauchi, was shadowed for approximately 50 minutes by three unidentified aerial phenomena. Initially, two smaller craft flew in close formation on the port side, emitting intense heat. Subsequently, a massive structural craft—described as “two aircraft carriers in size”—appeared on radar and visually trailed the 747, matching its evasive maneuvers over Alaska.

EVIDENCE / SENSOR DATA

  • FAA RADAR DATA: Anchorage Air Route Traffic Control Center confirmed a “primary return” (a physical object without a transponder) in close proximity to the 747, corroborating the pilot’s visual report.
  • MILITARY RADAR: Elmendorf Regional Operational Control Center (ROCC) also detected an intermittent primary target at the same coordinates.
  • COCKPIT SKETCHES: Technical drawings submitted by Captain Terauchi to the FAA detail nozzle configurations and amber light arrays, serving as critical historical documentation.

“The lights were so dazzling that I felt heat on my face. It was like looking into a blast furnace. Suddenly, the two small ships disappeared and the mothership appeared.”— Captain Kenju Terauchi, JAL Pilot (10,000+ Flight Hours)

INVESTIGATOR CONCLUSION

FAA Division Head of Accidents and Investigations, John Callahan, confiscated the radar data and presented it to the White House scientific team. The official conclusion was suppressed for decades. This case establishes a critical precedent: massive UAPs can operate with impunity within monitored civil airspace.
