US military intelligence classified the behavior of these anomalies through the so-called “Five Observables”. These are the technical criteria that separate conventional drones from truly unknown technologies.
The Five Observables: Breaking the Laws of Physics
For an event to be taken to the AARO as a real anomaly, it must display one or more of the following characteristics:
- Anti-gravity Lift: Objects without control surfaces (wings) or visible propulsion sources (turbines) that remain static or move at high speed.
- Sudden and Instantaneous Acceleration: The ability to go from inertia to hypersonic speeds instantly, withstanding G-forces that would destroy any human aircraft.
- Hypersonic Velocities: Speeds exceeding Mach 5 without generating a sonic boom or heat signature.
- Low Observability: The ability to become invisible to radar or the human eye (active camouflage).
- Trans-medium Travel: Fluid movement between space, the atmosphere, and the ocean without a change in performance.
Sensor Fusion: Beyond Human Sight
We no longer rely solely on pilot reports. The modern era of investigation is based on Sensor Fusion. When a SPY-1 radar detects a target, infrared cameras (FLIR) track it, and satellites confirm the position, human error is ruled out.
